Greetings, Does anyone knows if my nice 2007 1.3L Copen would be ok with this new fangled E10 petrol or what could go awry if it’s used? The government website(GOV.UK E10 Enquiry) has only those from 25 April 2008 as being suitable. I’ve included the website’s wording below. Daihatsu E10 petrol is cleared for use in the following models with petrol engines: Cuore L276: from production-date 25th April 2008. Trevis L651: from production-date 8th May 2008. Sirion M3: from market introduction. Materia M4: from market introduction. Terios J2: from market introduction. Copen L881: from production-date 25th April 2008. Contact Daihatsu dealers or distributor for confirmation of E10 compatibility of individual vehicle.

My partner loves her car and only 25,500 miles on it looking to keep it since purchased in December 2007. Super unleaded (to become labelled as E5) is an option (more expensive, but doing low miles). I can't see that the 1.3 engine would have changed much since it was first manufactured into the Sirion in 2005. In owners manual, on back cover shows worryingly L880-0510-E1. On page i diagram shows L881 Type K3 engine, which looks positive. Looking at the V5 document section 4, D.2 Type Variant is 1(L881RK) NICE !!! Can you trust anything nowadays....even the Gov.UK RAC give reasonable advice also in that if E10 is used, just top up with E5. What is E10 fuel and how will it affect you? | RAC Drive Hope above helps, Cheers, Paul
You can use E10 from VIN JDAL881K000004707 and upwards. But to be honest - I would stay with E5. There is not much of a price difference (at least not in Germany), so it's not much of a difference money-wise. Ethanol-free high-octane fuels are best of course, but they are quite expensive...
Hi Salieri, Thanks for the VIN number (mine ends in 3940 sadly). Our super-unleaded, which I imagine will be branded as E5, is about 8% dearer than normal unleaded at the moment, but as I say at 3,000 miles per year town driving (say 30mpg) it's only £8 per year. Cheers, Paul
Interesting, it's only a 4-6ct price difference here, so about 3-4%. But a car running on E10 also consumes a bit more petrol, so it's negligible
Thanks for all the comments. I guess I’ll just go for the super unleaded from now on rather than fretting about any possible damage from the new E10 type. I expect with the mileage it won’t amount to much more in terms of cost.
Just replying to bump this thread up the reading list, as the change over to E10 is happening. Looks like my 2008 1.3 needs premium as well as the vin ends 4095.
I read that the new E10, as mentioned above, has worse fuel economy by about 1% if I recall accurately. So there is some of your higher priced super covered. Just don't try to drive faster thinking it's now more super! I think you should get more than 30 mpg. I wouldn't be surprised at 40 mpg if mostly town driving. Unless you live on a steep hill and race it between speedbumps. Why the cut-off date midway through sales period of the 1.3 version/881?
Now how do we confirm? Just looked at my VIN and it's lower than the number Salieri posted. However, mine is one of the youngest cars in the UK registered at the end of 2009. So based on the Government website date I should be about 1.5 years past that. So something doesn't add.
Whether it means anything to us, but the Government website says all European Toyotas from 1998 are ok, excluding some Avensis. Some versions of the Yaris have essentially the same 1.3 engine. If they are ok from about 2005 why is the Copen ok from 2008.
Just read on Drive site that although manufacturers say it can be as little as 1% less efficient, it has been seen to be 8% less efficient.
Hi May i aske where this information came about ad mine ends 4041! and is there any way we can check! many thanks!

This applies for an unlimited period. Germany is the EU requirements, which only stipulate that conventional fuel types must be offered until 2013.
