    Hi everyone,
I have a 2007 Copen which apparently needs new front brakes. Kinghams of Croydon in Surrey have quoted £508 + VAT. Seems so much. Any idea if this is reasonable?

sounds incredible if it's just the brake discs/pads.
bought new pads and discs myself (spent a fair bit on ventilated ones but not really necessary) and had them fitted for under £200 by my local garage.
could have it done for around £150 if I'd bought more simple discs.

Thank you for this information, it is helpful to know how much pads & discs cost you. I think the whole units need replacing, but I am not sure and I will check now :)

Although not directly related, Honda charge about £350 per axle for pads/discs. Got the info for when I did my mum's Civic last year. I changed all discs and rear pads for easily under £100. If I had done the front pads it would only have been about £100 then.

So £500 for a Copen is ridiculously, unless everyone where you live are upper middle class, even the Aldi workers!

I know you can pads for around £30 and just looked at ebay and you can get them all for around £50. So £450 for fitting? They could do your job and go home for the rest of the day.

Its an easy job. I have some photos on here of my progress of taking the calipers off when I was checking them not long after having the car.

as in the discs have holes drilled in them rather than being solid.

Ok I see. Be careful they don't crack. Thats why they do dimples now. Although I don't think copen has that much braking power to give you worries.

Eurocarparts, discs £27.94 each and the pads from £14 to £32, for the set of 4. Add on an hours labour, maybe an hour and a half and you have a bill of no more that £190. And that's with the more expensive pads!

Sounds like another garage trying to rip off someone they believe to be naive as to the costs of motoring..

My wife took her Copen to a local garage to have a cat re-installed (the previous owner had taken it out and failed to tells us).

They quoted £1200.00 to sort the exhaust, just replacing the cat, not a full system!!

Found somewhere in the next town who did the whole job inc.the unit...£250.00

    Shysters...!

    Be careful out there folks!

Hard to find a good reliable garage these days.If you get one keep in with them.

Sadly there are too many rip off merchants out there.I got caught out last yr with MOT 1 day left on it , had to rush it ,local garage did the work n pulled my pants down charged a fortune for a wheel bearing that only lasted 5000 miles ,must of been made out of old bean cans:eek::eek:

Took it to my normal mechanic who charged half the price but did both sides!!! 25000 miles later still fine.

    Lesson learned

    Hi Victoria

Whatever you do take my advice and steer well clear of Kinghams of Croydon.

I don’t have time to write what I really feel about those people as it would take me far too long but, be aware that they charge £99.50 (plus V.A.T. @ 20%) for labour and their parts cost are astronomical. As an example, they quoted me £4,362.90 for the sensors to repair my roof although they could not provide me with the related part numbers.

Although the mechanic was actually a nice guy, the rest of them are the most disorganised, bitchy, sarcastic, uncaring bunch of XXXXX I have ever had the misfortune to deal with!

WRT the brakes, the cost of in Ireland is:

    Rotors / disks - E85
    Pads - E30
    Rear brake shoes - E40
    Labour - Roughly 2 hours @ E50 / hour

    Total - E200
