Do any current owners live by the sea? We're relocating due to me getting a promotion/transfer at work. We're going to be living in a seaside town & using a coastal road to get anywhere. Does our Copens bodywork stand a chance of surviving in these condition? There is a garage at the property we're going to rent for the first 6 months which we'll house the Copen in overnight. Will we have to wash the car more than once a week? Keen to hear if any fellow owners are in the same situation & has living by the sea made any difference?
Our car was registered in newquay cornwall, our favourite holiday spot , and we have had a lot of rust issue's. This may be a coincidence or poor maintainence by other owner's but i would be a bit careful
I live by the sea and drive and have had my Copen for a year now, it is rust free BUT it is washed and polished regularly and jet washed under the wheel arches to get any salt out. Mr L is a bit obsessive my last car was a Figaro and coped alright with the sea air although the paintwork looked quite dull after a few years - until he discovered that he liked polishing small cars - and it did have some rust (but then it was 22 years old). Your copen should be fine as long as you look after it and keep that sea water washed off regularly.
No need to be sorry! My bank manager was more than overjoyed to learn there'd be more money going into my account!!!
Thanks ClaireL that's reassuring to hear! The last owner told me he waxoyled the under cartridge so I hope that will help. Is Mr L planning on a national velvet service anytime soon?
I live in a coastal city but as I'm 3 miles inland I'm not sure salt is a problem for my car. When I lived down Reading and Milton Keynes friends used to comment that it must be great to live by the sea. They'd say "I bet you were over at the coast/ beach all the time." No, I rarely visit the seaside, I find it boring. Sunderland's Seaburn coastline, the tides in ........
The waxoyl should definitely help. I will have to ask mr L. He would love to do car detailing (posh word for car washing) but unfortunately has two kids to get through university first :-((
We live in Liverpool, lots of mild weather and rain thanks to the Irish sea. The Copen wasn't looked after cosmetically by the previous owners and it's now a rustbucket. For what it's worth, I jetwash inside the rear arches to remove crud and grime as much as possible, might be a bit too late to stop rusting any further but slows it down slightly
