    Hi guys,

    We have a 2008 1.3 Copen that has a faulty a/c compressor.
Bit of a long story, but basically this is a replacement one sourced and was running for about a month before it started to sound very noisy when running. Turns out we think the internal bearing collapsed possibly due to an overtight belt. It no longer runs at all.

So, we can either send our faulty unit to a company that will refurb it and guarantee it for 2 years, but that means taking out the compressor and have the car standing in a garage for possibly 3 weeks or so before the refurb unit is put back in, which we have been told isn't good for the open a\c system to be absorbing any moisture even if it is temporarily sealed.

Or try and source another second hand unit and get the job done in a day, and hope it lasts.

Trouble is, we have also been told that if our current compressor has indeed suffered an internal failure, then there is a good chance that there will be metal fragments in the a/c system which will destroy any replacement compressor again. So, was told we would need to replace all the a\c components before we attempt to fit another compressor.

Can the system be flushed to prevent replacing all the components, or is it unlikely this would happen??

Sounds like a very expensive solution and that is if you can source all the components anyway, as it is very difficult to find just a compressor alone.

Any thought or suggestions from those mechanically minded would be appreciated.

    Thanks all....
