Hi all, new to the site and new to Copen ownership. I picked up a beautiful 2006 silver Copen last week and it's in pretty good nick all round (with the exception of some minor bubbling on the bonnet ). New turbo on her and good service history too. The only thing is that it's got a black cloth interior and I'm really fond of the red leather seats. I've tried searching online and through breakers for leather but I have many people telling me not to make changes / modify it and to leave it standard. Should I leather it, or should I leave it? What's the general consensus? Thanks in advance Copeners!
Hi Parm Bilkhu, Welcome to Copenworld. I'd go for the Red leather upgrade. Would help for re-sale too.
I would go for leather if you can, the red leather seats really make the copen stand out from other cars
The standard leather Copen seats are pretty good - comfortable, nice feel and smell, and the heated seat feature makes them really toasty in the winter so they are definitely worth having. If it was me, I wouldn't worry too much at the moment because they do seem to crop up on ebay every so often, so keep looking but be prepared to wait quite a few months.
Thanks guys, I think you've all convinced me to leather it. It will have to be leather without the heated function as I don't know how to do the connections for the electrics. Now I need to find some leather ... if anyone has any ideas, please let me know! There's nothing on ebay currently so I'm searching breakers. Also I've tried to remove the stereo to upgrade that, but the clarion removal keys seem to be useless. Anyone know how these things come out? Thanks again all
I have two videos on how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snJgUXsFKV8 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIbzFUzwjpM
I don't think putting in standard red leather seats would be modifying it, its just making it look like another standard theme.
I pressure your current seats don't have the heating function? I would guess that connection are already present in the cars wiring loom. All you would need to do is connect the connection from the floor to the bottom of the seats. Then buy a pair of heater switches to swap out the blanks in the centre console.
Good point - thanks! Now I just need to find some seats and door cards, nothing showing after an extensive search on google :-((
Can't you get the existing seats recovered in leather? Not sure how much it will cost but if you choose black leather then you won't need to change the door cards. You'll have to forget about heating he seats though. Adams car has black leather seats with red piping which I think looks better than the red leather. Have a look at his thread with the pictures, it's worth thinking about.
Thanks Adam, and a good point made! Only problem that I have now is finding some red leather seats with matching door cards. Searched ebay - no joy. Tried breakers and no joy there either :-((
Well it is worth an enquiry. I watch wheeler dealers on Discovery and they've had seats recovered in leather at what seemed a reasonable price at the time. They had it done at a place in Birmingham, an ex rover upholsterer who had set up on his own.
Thanks guys - as you say it's worth asking and seeing what the cost is. I think we need to get Mike Brewer involved here lol In a cruel twist of fate, a Copen with red leather was being broken up in Yorkshire, when I called them and asked about the seats and door cards, they said they're too damaged to be used
Just called them up regarding this and they said their website is out of date and this was a vehicle broken by them in January 2012. So the search continues. They did take my details and said they will check all of their stock and come back to me ... It doesn't sound too promising. But thanks for the link.
Has anyome covered their cloth seats with the seat covers from Rakuten? As no on mentioned it, i wondered if thats because there may be an issue with the heated function?? Really want to buy some myself..
