I also have a1.3 with heavy clutch. It didn't change when a new clutch was fitted, my mechanic said it may be something internal to the gearbox.

BTW, if you want some shiny new wheel bolts to go with the new centre, they are the same as mazda MX5 and you can get a chrome set reasonably...
