» How To Replace Your Seatbelt Guides |
|
Feb 27, 2010 - 8:53 PM - by rushmere
|

There's a new "How To...." guide on the features page showing how to replace your plastic seatbelt guides with some lovely shiny chrome ones which actually work!
It's extremely simple to do. Perhaps the most useful part of the guide is explaining how to import them from Japan.

» Daihatsu UK Acknowledges Car Shortage |
|
Feb 25, 2010 - 5:08 PM - by rushmere
|

Daihatsu UK has acknowledged the shortage of cars in the UK on it's website.
The following statement now appears on the product information pages, including the page for the Copen:
"Due to the current weakness of the Pound against the Japanese Yen it has not been possible to order cars from our factory. As a result, some models are now in very short supply.
We are sorry if you are unable to find the exact colour and specification of the car you want, however your dealer will be able to advise you on the availability of stock across the UK."

» Daihatsu Recalling Cars |
|
Feb 25, 2010 - 5:00 PM - by rushmere
|

Following on from Toyota's worldwide recall of over 8 million cars due to safety concerns, Daihatsu has today announced that it is to recall 60,774 cars due to wiring problems that could trigger airbags to inflate accidentally.
The Daihatsu recall is said to apply to "four minicar models" manufactured between December 1998 and April 2000, which would appear to eliminate the Copen at this stage, which was introduced in 2002.
Nissan and Suzuki have also issued recalls for different faults.

» UK Scrappage Scheme Approaches The End |
|
Feb 24, 2010 - 5:08 PM - by rushmere
|

The UK scrappage scheme which offers a £2000 trade-in against a new car is now drawing to a close.
The scheme is due to end on 31st March 2010, or earlier if allocated funds run out before then.
Strangely, Daihatsu is one of the car manufacturers signed up for the final stages of the scheme, even though it's now getting very difficult to find a new Daihatsu for sale in this country. It must be very frustrating for anyone trying to take advantage of the scheme before it closes!

» New Daihatsus Dwindle |
|
Feb 19, 2010 - 8:18 PM - by rushmere
|

"What Car?" magazine confirms that new Daihatsus continue to be hard to find in the UK:
"Daihatsu buyers are finding it increasingly difficult to find the car of their choice because dealers are running out of stock.
IM Group, the company that imports Daihatsus, hasn't brought in any new cars since last summer because of the poor exchange rate between the pound and the yen."
Are we ever going to see new Daihatsus in the UK again?

» VAT Increase Inflates UK Copen Price [Updated] |
|
Jan 23, 2010 - 7:33 PM - by rushmere
|

As expected, the published price of a Copen in the UK increased a little at the start of the year to reflect the increase in VAT from 15% to 17.5%.
The "On the road" price is now up to £11,822 from £11,745. The cost of accessories have also risen.
However, new Daihatsus remain hard to find in the UK.
Update: The published "on the road" price is now up to £11,997 (thanks to copenworld member dk21 for pointing that out).

» Merry Christmas! |

Dec 21, 2009 - 7:45 PM - by rushmere

Thank you for supporting the website since it was born just three months ago, and I hope to see you all again in 2010.
I shall be away on holiday for about a month from Christmas Eve. I'm hoping to have internet access for some of the time while I'm away, so I'll pop in occasionally to say hello and to check on any problems. However, it does mean that there will probably be no significant updates to the site until the end of January. I've got quite a few ideas for developing copenworld further next year, so I hope you can stick around and enjoy it with me.
Until then, I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas, and a very Happy New Year.

» The Daihatsu UK Saga Continues..... [Updated] |
|
Dec 16, 2009 - 7:46 AM - by rushmere
|
Copenworld member "Rex" has received a letter from a Newport Daihatsu dealer stating:
It is with deep regret I have to inform you of Daihatsu's decision to withdraw from the UK market due to currency pressures on the Japanese Yen.
The current position relates to car sales only. All warranty, servicing and parts supply will continue to be supported by us as normal...
Going forwards, we are unable to supply new Daihatsu products...
We can assure that your vehicle part exchange will be unaffected against any of our products and hope our new exciting range of cars will be of interest to you in the future.
It remains to be seen whether this is one dealer who has taken up the rumoured offer to cease their Daihatsu franchise, or whether Daihatsu really is fully withdrawing from the UK.
Daihatsu themselves are still publicly stating that this is a temporary hold on imports rather than complete withdrawal from the UK, but the full position remains unclear.
Update: A user on copenownersclub.org.uk, has posted to say "I work for Daihatsu, but can't say too much else other than they have withdrawn and I am afraid won't be supplying to the UK again under the Daihatsu name". Does this mean we might be seeing the Toyota Copen for sale in future???

» Don't Forget Your Blanket and Shovel |

Dec 15, 2009 - 4:23 PM - by rushmere

There are forecasts of heavy snow across much of the UK later this week, so don't forget to stock up on de-icer!
"What Car?" is reporting claims from the AA that there is a shortage of salt for treating roads in half of UK local authorities. Although the Local Government Association is accusing the AA of "ridiculous scaremongering", there is always a risk of dangerous road conditions, so stay safe out there if you really have to venture out in your Copen!
