I'll be carrying out some maintenance on copenworld between January 21 and January 28.
There will be some interruptions to the website during this period, including times when the site and/or forums will be unavailable.
Please bear with me, and everything should be back to normal by January 29th.

» New Copen Rumours |
|
Aug 12, 2011 - 10:25 PM - by rushmere
|
According to Auto Express, a new Copen is being developed by Daihatsu, powered by a new Toyota 900cc two-cylinder petrol engine.
How will this model compare to the current model, and will it see the Copen returning to Europe? Copenworld will track the story as it develops over the coming months.
A discussion has already started on this topic in the forums here.

» Kei Kars in the Park Annual Meet 2011 |
|
Aug 02, 2011 - 7:45 AM - by rushmere

Head along to Kingsbury Water Park at Sutton Coldfield on September 18 for the Kei Kars in the Park Annual Meet 2011.
It should be a great day out, and an opportunity to meet up with fellow Copen owners, as well as the owners of other similar class cars. Copenworld member Adam K is the person you need to talk to, and you can find out everything you need to know on the forums here.
Let's see if we can break the record for the number of Copens attending this year!

If you're looking for something to do on a (hopefully sunny) Summer's Sunday in England, why not join Kei Cars in the Park (KKITP) at Japfest 2 on 10th July at Donington Park?
Hop over to the KKITP website for all the details. You need to book by 23rd May if you're interested, so get in quick.
Adam K is the Copen rep for KKITP, and I'm sure he'll be happy to answer any questions!

» Dealer takeover? |

Could Daihatsu dealers become Great Wall dealers?
It looks like I.M Group (the ex importers of Daihatsu) will be importing Chinese Great Wall cars according to Car Dealer Magazine. And they have been looking into it for the last 10 years!!
IM's Paul Hegarty ex-operations director for Daihatsu, and now managing director of Great Wall Motor Distributors (UK) said
‘There is no link at all between our talks with Great Wall and the demise of Daihatsu in the UK.'
Article HERE
What do you think. Is it a stitch-up??

» Daihatsu Resumes Production in Japan |
|
Apr 14, 2011 - 9:34 PM - by rushmere
|
In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan on March 11, Daihatsu is to resume production at its plants in Osaka and Kyoto on April 18.
This will mean that all of its Japanese plants will now be back in operation, although not all will be running at full capacity as the supply of some parts is still limited.

OK, here's a question for you all. Should copenworld be on Facebook?
I've considered setting up a Facebook account before, but I'm unsure whether it's worthwhile. Would it get used? Would it attract more members, especially younger people? Or would it just be too much and maybe have an adverse effect on forum usage?
Leave your comments, and tell me what you think in the poll!

» Japan Earthquake |
|
Mar 15, 2011 - 8:36 PM - by rushmere
|
Our thoughts are with all of those affected by the catastrophic earthquake in Japan. For most of us, this is a truly unimaginable event.
Not surprisingly, Bloomberg reports that Daihatsu production has been affected along with production from a number of other Japanese car companies. However, at this time, problems with car production seem unimportant compared to the devastation that is facing the Japanese people.
The British Red Cross appeal can be found here for anyone who wants to help.

» Daihatsu Officially Quits Europe |
|
Jan 14, 2011 - 7:25 PM - by rushmere
|
Daihatsu has formally announced that it is to completely exit the European market from 2013.
Supplies of new Daihatsu cars are already virtually non-existent, and this news has been expected for some time.
Daihatsu's UK website has been taken down and replaced with the following statement:
"It was announced on 13th January 2011 that sales of Daihatsu motor cars will cease across Europe on 31st January 2013. This is due to the ongoing strength of the Japanese Yen, which has increased prices beyond competitive levels. There is no stock of new Daihatsu cars in the UK, and we do not expect to import any new cars in this interim period.
However, we wish to reassure Daihatsu owners that all after sales services will continue unaffected. Therefore, the supply of spare parts will continue, and warranty work and servicing will be carried out at our official UK dealer network, which remains in place and whose details can be found on this website.
We thank Daihatsu customers for their past custom and loyalty, and share their disappointment at this news."
