» Copenworld 2.0
Jun 25, 2015 - 8:16 PM - by copenworld

The Copenworld website is looking a bit dated now, and is running on obsolete software.

The world has moved on a lot since the website was created back in 2009, and I really need to update it to give it some more modern capabilities.

For that reason, Iím going to be moving the forum onto a new software platform.

You will continue to access the website at www.copenworld.com, but the look and functionality of the website will be changing a bit, so it may take some getting used to after the changeover!

Iíll be migrating all of the existing users and posts onto the new forum, and most of you should simply be able to log in with your current username and password after the launch. However, a few users may need to reset their passwords to gain access. In preparation for this, it would be a good idea now to review your registered details including your email address to make sure itís all up to date, which you can do on your profile page here. By making sure itís correct, it will be easier to request a password reset (which is automatically confirmed via your registered email address) if necessary when the new website is launched.

To whet your appetite, here are a few key benefits of the new website:

- The forums will have a more modern look and feel.
- It will have a "responsive" design, which means youíll be able to use the forums from a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer.
- Youíll be able to drag and drop photos into messages.
- There will be the capability to Ďlikeí posts and features (similar to Facebook).
- Youíll be able to easily share information on Facebook and Twitter.
- The Directory and Features pages (which are now very outdated) will be replaced with a new ďResourcesĒ page. This will have reduced content initially, but will grow over time.
- The new software platform will also offer the capability to add more new features in future.

Iím hoping to have the new website ready by the end of July, but the timescale depends on what problems I encounter along the way. Iím working on the migration now, and I've got the basics done, but itís likely to be a while yet before itís completely ready to use.

The website will need to be taken down for a day or two for the update, but Iíll let you know when I have more news to share.

» New Copen launched in Japan
Jun 21, 2014 - 5:37 PM - by copenworld

The new model Copen has been formally launched by Daihatsu in Japan.

Daihatsu has stuck with the Copen name rather than the "Kopen" name it used with the concept models. The first model is known as the Copen "Robe", with a sportier model currently code-named Copen X to be released later.

It has a more angular and perhaps less "cute" look than the original model.

The new Copen has a 660cc turbo-charged three-cylinder engine, so it still classes as a Kei car.

Many of the body panels are interchangeable, which should allow for some interesting customisations. Parts that are fully customisable include the bonnet, boot lid, front and rear bumpers, all four wings, the rocker panels and the fuel lid. Some interior components are also customisable.

It comes with a push button start, leather steering wheel and gear knob, heated seats, keyless entry, air conditioning, heated windscreen and carbon fibre trim, plus an optional "infotainment" system placed on top of the central dashboard.

Available colours are Liquid Silver Metallic, Pearl White III, Bright Silver Metallic, Black Mica Metallic, Matador Red Pearl, Toniko Orange Metallic, Jaune Yellow, and Clear Blue Crystal Metallic

Prices in Japan start at a very reasonable 1,798,200 yen (around £10,350 or Ä12,950) for the basic model or 1,819,800 yen (around £10,480 or Ä13,110) for the five-speed model.

You can view the launch video here, and the Japanese website can be found here.

There appear to be no plans currently to sell the new model outside Japan, so buyers elsewhere will need to arrange an import if they want to buy it.
» Copen Calendar 2014
Nov 29, 2013 - 1:15 PM - by copenworld
Copen Rep Adam K has done a fantastic job of putting together a Copen calendar for 2014.

Copenworld members submitted photos of their pride and joy, and then voted for the best ones.

Adam has had them made into a calendar, which can be delivered to you for the bargain price of £7.99 (plus the small Paypal fee) for UK members, or can be sent at cost to members elsewhere in the world. Payment is to be made direct to Adam using Paypal.

See the forum discussion here for full details.

Get your orders in as soon as possible if you want to give this as a Christmas gift.
» Copen Set to Return?
Oct 24, 2013 - 8:07 AM - by copenworld
Autocar is reporting that the Copen is set to make a comeback.

The Copen was built for a 10 year period from 2002, with the final car rolling off the production line in August 2012.

Rumour has it that our favourite little car may go back into production at some as yet unspecified future date.
» Site Problems [Updated]
Aug 03, 2013 - 11:31 PM - by copenworld
There have been some significant technical problems at our web hosting company over the last couple of days.

The site has been restored from a backup, which means that forum updates from the past 24 hours or so have been lost.

Apologies for the problem, but it's been a rather difficult and frustrating few days here at copenworld global HQ (AKA my house). Time to switch off the computer and open a bottle of wine....or two.....

UPDATE: As of August 20, the website has been moved onto a better server with a new hosting company. The stability and speed of the website has now improved significantly.
» New Daihatsu Concept Car
Sep 27, 2012 - 9:31 AM - by copenworld

Autoblog reports that Daihatsu is showing a new concept car, the Daihatsu D-R, at this year's Indonesian Motor Show.

It looks very much like a refreshed and modernised version of the Copen.

It's not the first time that Daihatsu has shown a Copen-like concept, so it remains to be seen whether it (or anything similar) will ever make it into production.

We can but hope!

Thanks to Adam K for already starting a discussion here on the forums.
» The 6th annual KKITP meet
Aug 19, 2012 - 6:43 PM - by copenworld
It's the 6th annual UK meet of Kei Cars in the Park on September 23rd at Sutton Coldfield.

It will be a great day out, and there's even a chance for your lovely Copen to win a prize.

There are accommodation suggestions for anyone wanting to stay over.

Adam K is the man to talk to, and you can find all the info you need on the forums here.
» Copen Production to Cease in August 2012
Apr 21, 2012 - 10:51 PM - by copenworld

Daihatsu has announced that production of the Copen will cease in August 2012.

Originally unveiled as a concept at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1999, the car went into production in 2002, with around 56,000 made to date.

The occasion will be marked with the release of 500 white 10th Anniversary Limited Edition models, to be available in Japan only.

With no plans for a replacement, it ends a remarkable 10 year run for this amazing little car, which will surely become a future classic.
» Site Maintenance
Feb 24, 2012 - 7:09 PM - by copenworld
The site maintenance work is now complete.

Copenworld has been relocated on to new servers, and the bills have been paid for the next couple of years, so that should secure the future of the site for a while!

You may still have some intermittent problems with accessing the site while the changes propagate across the internet, but this should resolve itself within the next day or two.

If any parts of the site are not loading properly, please clear your browser cache and try again.

If the problems persist, or if you spot anything that isn't working correctly (there may well be a few broken links here and there), please let me know.

Kei Kars in the Park Copen Rep "Adam K" has started a thread in the copenworld forums gathering pictures for a Copen 2013 calendar.

Dust off those cameras and get out in the Copen to grab some great photos, then hop over to the forums here and share those photographic masterpieces.
